Socially relevant research to contribute to a responsible civil society for responsive governane in urban areas.

Mission –
Facilitate the creation of spaces for mutual interaction, networking and enhanced relationships of civil society with the local governments through action research in urban areas.

How we began?
Started as an Urban Governance project in Coastal Karnataka in 1998 with Technology Informatics Design Endeavour (TIDE), Bangalore. URC evolve as a response for a multi-professional approach to address the urban issues, in 2004.

Objectives –
1.Carryout research activities on social, economical, cultural, environmental, managerial, developmental aspects of urban areas.

2.Undertake integrated field studies on the processes of urbanization, globalization, modernization and their impact on decentralization and governance related to local, regional, national and international situations.

3.Implement action research and development projects in urban, semi-urban and rural areas towards the understanding of the influence of migration, demographic and economic change on development, environment and urbanization.

4.Develop methodologies of working with various stake holders, such as Civil society, NGOs, Government officials and Elected representatives to facilitate positive decision making in development.

5.Provide tools and training for decentralized management and networking.

6.Initiate platforms and develop materials for dissemination of information for creating qualitative atmosphere for discussion.
