special issue of Bankwatch focuses on the failure of the ADB in staying
true to its overarching goal -- poverty alleviation. In its 40 years of
operation in Asia and the Pacific, its funded projects have caused
environmental damage and has displaced around 1.7 million people.

its developing member countries (DMCs) and emergence of other sources of
financial resources, and the possibility of going out of business. more

Specifically, it reacts to the Operations Evaluation Department's
special evaluation study on the Environment and Involuntary Resettlement
Policies. Possible implications of the proposed "country systems"
approach by the Bank, which is patterned to World Bank's, is also
discussed in this issue.
