Safeguard Policy
From the beginning of the 1990s, the ADB has created sector policies,
safeguard policies and accountability policies to govern its activities.
These policies promote the Bank’s growth-oriented development paradigm.
However, some of the provisions of these policies do not promote sustainable
development and do not support community involvement in decision making.
NGO Forum on ADB heightens the public debate on the Bank’s development
strategies and promotes better accountability, good governance and social
justice. Towards this goal, Forum’s member organizations are involved in
monitoring the ADB's policies and are lobbying for better policies. Forum
also helps facilitate these NGO policy campaigns.
At present, the ADB is reviewing its Safeguard Policies and Energy Policy.
Forum Members are developing a parallel process of engagement on the ADB’s
ongoing policy reviews.
